Create a magical underwater world in a cup with this fun and easy Edible Aquarium Jello Cups Recipe! Perfect for parties, kids, or anyone who loves a whimsical treat.

  • Total Time: 4 hours 30 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

2 (3-ounce) packages Berry Blue or Blue Raspberry flavored gelatin
4 cups boiling water, divided
4 cups cold water, divided
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
2 tablespoons melted butter (optional, for firmer sand layer)
Assorted gummy candies (fish, sharks, octopus, etc.)
Green licorice laces or gummy worms (for 'seaweed')
8 individual clear cups (5-7 oz capacity)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the first batch of blue jello. In a medium bowl, dissolve one package of blue gelatin in 2 cups of boiling water. Whisk for 2 minutes until fully dissolved. Stir in 2 cups of cold water.
Step 2: Pour about 1/4 cup of the liquid blue jello into each of your 8 clear cups. Place these cups in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes, or until the jello is just set but still slightly sticky. This initial layer will hold your 'sand'.
Step 3: While the jello is chilling, prepare the 'sand' layer. In a small bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs. If desired, you can mix in 2 tablespoons of melted butter to help the crumbs clump slightly, resembling wet sand.
Step 4: Once the first jello layer is slightly set, gently sprinkle about 1-2 tablespoons of the graham cracker crumbs over the jello in each cup. Lightly press them down to create an even 'sandy' bottom.
Step 5: Carefully place a few gummy fish or other gummy candies onto the graham cracker 'sand'. Position them so they look like they are swimming or resting on the bottom.
Step 6: Prepare the second batch of blue jello using the remaining package of gelatin, 2 cups of boiling water, and 2 cups of cold water, following the same method as Step 1.
Step 7: Allow the second batch of jello to cool slightly to room temperature (about 10-15 minutes). Pour the cooled liquid jello over the gummy candies and sand layer in each cup, filling them almost to the top. Be careful to pour slowly to avoid disturbing the sand and gummies too much.
Step 8: Before the jello sets completely, add more gummy candies to the cups. These will appear to be 'swimming' in the middle of the aquarium. You can also add cut pieces of green licorice laces or gummy worms to mimic seaweed. For a realistic touch, some gummies can be placed upright using tweezers.
Step 9: Refrigerate the Edible Aquarium Jello Cups Recipe for at least 4 hours, or until the jello is completely set and firm. The longer they chill, the firmer they will be.
Step 10: Just before serving, you can add a final garnish like a sprinkle of blue sugar, a dollop of whipped cream, or a small edible pearl for extra visual appeal. Enjoy your delightful edible aquariums!

Notes

For best results, allow the jello to cool slightly before pouring over the candies to prevent melting. Adjust the amount of gummy candies and 'seaweed' to your liking. Can be made up to 24 hours in advance.
