Ingredients
2 sticks (1 cup / 226g) unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
2 tablespoons good quality vodka
4 cloves garlic, minced very finely
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves, finely chopped
1 teaspoon lemon zest (from 1/2 lemon)
1/2 teaspoon sea salt, or to taste
1/4 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
Instructions
Step 1: Ensure your unsalted butter is completely softened to room temperature. This is crucial for a smooth and well-incorporated Vodka Butter. If it's too cold, it will be hard to mix; if melted, it will separate.
Step 2: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, vodka, minced garlic, finely chopped fresh parsley, chives, thyme, lemon zest, sea salt, and black pepper.
Step 3: Using a spatula or a sturdy spoon, vigorously mix all the ingredients together until everything is thoroughly combined and the butter is uniformly flavored. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
Step 4: Lay out a piece of parchment paper or plastic wrap on a clean surface. Spoon the Vodka Butter mixture onto the paper, forming a rough log shape.
Step 5: Use the parchment paper to roll the butter into a tight log, about 1.5 to 2 inches in diameter. Twist the ends of the paper to seal the log securely, like a candy wrapper.
Step 6: Place the wrapped Vodka Butter log in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until it is firm enough to slice. This chilling time allows the flavors to meld beautifully and makes it easy to portion.
Step 7: Once firm, unwrap the Vodka Butter and slice off rounds as needed. Store any remaining Vodka Butter in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for up to 3 months for longer storage.
Notes
For best results, use fresh, high-quality ingredients. You can customize the herbs and aromatics to your liking. The alcohol content in the vodka will largely cook out, leaving behind only its flavor-enhancing properties.
