Ingredients
1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled and chopped
1-2 tablespoons maple syrup, honey, or granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
1 cup milk of choice (dairy, oat, almond, soy)
1 teaspoon ceremonial-grade matcha powder, sifted
2-3 tablespoons hot water (around 175°F/80°C)
Ice cubes
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the strawberry puree. Place hulled and chopped strawberries in a small bowl. Add your preferred sweetener (maple syrup, honey, or sugar).
Step 2: Mash the strawberries with a fork or potato masher until you reach your desired consistency. For a chunkier texture, mash lightly. For a smoother syrup, blend briefly.
Step 3: Assemble the layers. Spoon the prepared strawberry puree into the bottom of a tall glass.
Step 4: Fill the glass with ice cubes, almost to the top. This helps keep the layers distinct.
Step 5: Slowly pour your chosen milk over the ice, allowing it to gently settle above the strawberry layer.
Step 6: Whisk the matcha. In a small bowl, sift the matcha powder to prevent clumps. Add hot water (around 175°F/80°C).
Step 7: Vigorously whisk the matcha and water using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small electric frother until a smooth, bright green, and frothy liquid forms.
Step 8: Combine and serve. Gently pour the whisked matcha over the milk and ice, creating a beautiful layered effect.
Step 9: Serve immediately. Stir before drinking to combine all the delicious flavors and enjoy your refreshing strawberry matcha latte!
Notes
For the best flavor and color, use high-quality ceremonial grade matcha. Adjust the amount of sweetener in the strawberry puree to your preference, depending on the sweetness of your strawberries. For an extra rich and creamy texture, oat milk is highly recommended.
