Ingredients
8-10 fresh raspberries
4-5 fresh basil leaves
2 oz (60ml) gin
1 oz (30ml) fresh lime juice
0.75 oz (22ml) simple syrup (adjust to taste)
3-4 oz (90-120ml) sparkling water or club soda
Ice
Fresh raspberries and basil sprig, for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: In a cocktail shaker, gently muddle 8-10 fresh raspberries with 4-5 fresh basil leaves. Press just enough to release juices and oils, not to mash completely.
Step 2: Add 2 oz (60ml) gin, 1 oz (30ml) fresh lime juice, and 0.75 oz (22ml) of simple syrup to the shaker.
Step 3: Fill the shaker with ice. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds until well-chilled.
Step 4: Double-strain the mixture into an ice-filled tall glass (such as a Collins or highball glass) to remove seeds and herb fragments.
Step 5: Top the drink with about 3-4 oz (90-120ml) of sparkling water or club soda.
Step 6: Garnish with a few fresh raspberries and a sprig of fresh basil. Serve immediately.
Notes
For a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the gin and increase the sparkling water or add a non-alcoholic spirit. Adjust simple syrup to your sweetness preference.
