Ingredients
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water (filtered recommended for best taste)
Instructions
Step 1: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup granulated sugar and 1 cup water. For a richer, thicker syrup, you can use 2 cups sugar to 1 cup water.
Step 2: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly with a spoon or whisk until all the sugar crystals have completely dissolved. This process usually takes about 3-5 minutes. Ensure the liquid is clear, with no visible sugar grains.
Step 3: Once the sugar is fully dissolved, immediately remove the saucepan from the heat. Do not let the mixture boil vigorously, as this can cause excessive water evaporation.
Step 4: Allow the simple syrup to cool completely to room temperature. This is important for preventing crystallization and achieving the correct consistency.
Step 5: Pour the cooled simple syrup into a clean, airtight container (such as a glass bottle or jar). Store the simple syrup in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 weeks.
Notes
For a standard simple syrup, use a 1:1 sugar to water ratio. For a richer, thicker syrup, use a 2:1 sugar to water ratio. Always ensure the sugar is fully dissolved before cooling to prevent crystallization.
