Master the art of the perfect classic margarita with this incredibly easy, three-ingredient recipe. Fresh lime juice, quality tequila, and a touch of agave nectar or simple syrup come together to create a vibrant, balanced, and refreshing cocktail that beats any pre-made mix.

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 cocktail 1x

Ingredients

Scale

2 oz (60ml) Blanco Tequila (100% Agave recommended)
1 oz (30ml) Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice (from 1-2 limes)
0.75 oz (22.5ml) Agave Nectar or Simple Syrup (adjust to taste)
Coarse salt (for rim, optional)
Lime wedge or wheel (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Glass and Rim. If desiring a salted rim, rub a lime wedge around the rim of your chosen glass (margarita, coupe, or rocks glass), then dip it gently into a shallow plate of coarse salt. Set aside to chill.
Step 2: Combine Ingredients in Shaker. In a cocktail shaker, pour 2 ounces of Blanco tequila, 1 ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice, and 0.75 ounces of agave nectar or simple syrup.
Step 3: Add Ice and Shake Vigorously. Fill the shaker two-thirds full with ice. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the shaker is thoroughly chilled and frosty.
Step 4: Strain and Serve. Place a cocktail strainer over the shaker and strain the margarita mixture into your prepared, chilled glass filled with fresh ice. For a smoother drink, you can double strain through a fine-mesh sieve.
Step 5: Garnish and Enjoy. Garnish with a fresh lime wedge or wheel. Serve immediately and savor your perfectly crafted simple margarita.

Notes

For best results, always use fresh ingredients. Adjust the amount of sweetener to your preferred taste. Blanco tequila yields a cleaner, brighter flavor, while a good Reposado can add a smoother, slightly oaky note.
