Ingredients
1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine (Rioja or Tempranillo)
1/2 cup Brandy
1/2 cup fresh orange juice
2 tablespoons sugar or simple syrup
1 large orange, sliced into thin rounds
1 lemon, sliced into thin rounds
1 green apple, cored and diced
1 cinnamon stick (optional)
1 cup club soda (added just before serving)
Ice for serving
Instructions
Step 1: Place the diced apples, orange slices, and lemon slices in a large glass pitcher.
Step 2: Add the sugar and brandy to the fruit and stir gently. Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes to allow the fruit to macerate.
Step 3: Pour in the bottle of red wine and the orange juice. Add a cinnamon stick if using.
Step 4: Stir the mixture thoroughly to ensure the sugar is completely dissolved.
Step 5: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, ideally overnight, to let the flavors meld.
Step 6: Just before serving, stir in the club soda for a bit of fizz.
Step 7: Pour into ice-filled glasses, making sure to scoop some of the fruit into each glass.
Notes
Always use a dry wine to prevent the drink from becoming cloying. If you prefer it sweeter, add more sugar or a splash of lemon-lime soda instead of club soda.
