A delightful and energizing hot matcha latte recipe that delivers a creamy, earthy, and slightly sweet beverage, perfect for a calming morning ritual or an afternoon pick-me-up. This recipe focuses on creating a smooth, lump-free experience with a beautiful layer of foam.

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1-2 teaspoons ceremonial grade matcha powder
2-3 ounces (60-90ml) hot water (175-185°F / 80-85°C)
6-8 ounces (180-240ml) milk of choice (oat, almond, or dairy milk recommended)
1-2 teaspoons sweetener of choice (maple syrup, honey, agave nectar, optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Using your bamboo scoop or a small spoon, measure 1-2 teaspoons of ceremonial grade matcha powder into a fine-mesh sieve. Sift the matcha directly into your warmed bowl.
Step 2: Heat about 2-3 ounces (60-90ml) of water to just below boiling point, ideally between 175-185°F (80-85°C). Pour the hot water over the sifted matcha powder in your bowl.
Step 3: Hold your matcha bowl firmly with one hand and your bamboo whisk with the other. Whisk the matcha and water using a rapid 'W' or 'M' motion, keeping the whisk just above the bottom of the bowl. Continue whisking for about 30-60 seconds until a creamy froth forms.
Step 4: Gently heat your preferred milk (about 6-8 ounces or 180-240ml) on the stovetop or in a microwave. Do not boil it. Use a milk frother or whisk vigorously to create a velvety foam.
Step 5: If using a sweetener, add it to the frothed milk and stir to dissolve. Pour the frothed milk over your whisked matcha.
Step 6: Serve your perfectly crafted hot matcha latte immediately.

Notes

Always use ceremonial grade matcha for the best flavor and texture. Adjust water and milk quantities to achieve your desired strength and creaminess. For an extra creamy foam, slightly warm your milk before frothing. Enjoy the mindful process of preparing this delicious drink!
