A simple, versatile, and incredibly satisfying overnight oats recipe perfect for meal prepping a healthy breakfast. This foundational recipe can be customized with your favorite toppings and mix-ins.

  • Total Time: 5 minutes (plus overnight chilling)
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1/2 cup rolled oats (old-fashioned oats)
1/2 cup milk (dairy or plant-based of your choice)
1-2 tablespoons chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-2 teaspoons sweetener (maple syrup, honey, agave, or sugar, to taste)

Instructions

Step 1: Combine Ingredients: In a jar with a lid (a 16-ounce mason jar works best), combine the rolled oats, milk, chia seeds, vanilla extract, and your chosen sweetener. Start with 1 teaspoon of sweetener and adjust to your preference.
Step 2: Stir Well: Stir all the ingredients thoroughly until well combined. Make sure there are no clumps of chia seeds stuck together at the bottom or sides of the jar. This ensures even absorption.
Step 3: Cover and Chill: Place the lid on the jar and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. The longer it chills, the thicker and creamier your Overnight Oats will become.
Step 4: Serve and Enjoy: In the morning, give your Overnight Oats a good stir. If the consistency is too thick, add a splash more milk until it reaches your desired creaminess. Add your favorite toppings (fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, yogurt, etc.) and enjoy your effortless and delicious breakfast!

Notes

Feel free to adjust the amount of sweetener and vanilla to your taste. For added protein, mix in a scoop of your favorite protein powder. Store prepared overnight oats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-5 days.
