  • Total Time: 4 hours 25 minutes (includes chilling)
  • Yield: 24 shots (2 oz each) 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 (3 oz) package flavored gelatin (e.g., cherry, lime, orange)
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup cold water (or fruit juice, non-alcoholic mixer)
1/2 cup desired alcohol (e.g., vodka, light rum, tequila, flavored liqueur)
Optional garnishes: whipped cream, fresh fruit, sprinkles, edible glitter

Instructions

Step 1: Line a baking sheet with 24 (2 oz) plastic or silicone shot cups. This makes transport and chilling much easier.
Step 2: In a large, heat-proof bowl, empty the contents of the flavored gelatin package. Carefully pour in the 1 cup of boiling water.
Step 3: Whisk vigorously for at least 2-3 minutes, or until the gelatin powder is completely dissolved. Ensure there are no granules remaining.
Step 4: Stir in the 1/2 cup of cold water (or juice/mixer) until well combined. This helps to cool the mixture before adding the alcohol.
Step 5: Once the mixture has cooled slightly (it should be warm but not hot), stir in the 1/2 cup of your chosen alcohol until fully incorporated. For optimal setting of your jello shot recipes, ensure the alcohol is not added to very hot liquid.
Step 6: Carefully pour the jello mixture into the prepared shot cups, filling each almost to the brim. For layered jello shot recipes, chill each layer for about 30-45 minutes until just set before adding the next.
Step 7: Transfer the baking sheet with the filled cups to the refrigerator. Chill for a minimum of 2-4 hours, or preferably overnight, until the jello shots are completely firm and set.
Step 8: Once set, garnish your jello shot recipes as desired just before serving (e.g., with whipped cream, a small fruit slice, or sprinkles). Serve chilled and enjoy responsibly!

Notes

Always ensure jello shots are consumed responsibly and only by adults. Keep them clearly labeled if serving alongside non-alcoholic treats, especially at family events. For best results, use fresh gelatin and chill thoroughly.
