Crispy, savory, and incredibly easy to make, these homemade baked pita chips are a healthier alternative to store-bought snacks and perfect for dipping into hummus, salsa, or enjoying on their own. Customizable with your favorite seasonings!

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings (approximately 2 pitas) 1x

Ingredients

Scale

4 rounds of pita bread (preferably fresh)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon sea salt (or to taste)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
Other optional seasonings: paprika, dried oregano, sumac, za'atar, chili powder, cinnamon sugar (for sweet variation)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
Step 2: Stack the pita bread rounds. Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut each pita into 6-8 uniform triangles or wedges. For thinner chips, you can carefully split each pita round in half before cutting.
Step 3: In a large bowl, drizzle the pita wedges with olive oil. Add sea salt, black pepper, and garlic powder (if using), or your chosen seasonings. Toss thoroughly to ensure every piece is lightly and evenly coated.
Step 4: Arrange the seasoned pita wedges in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Ensure there is no overcrowding, as this will lead to steaming rather than crisping. You may need to use an additional baking sheet for larger batches.
Step 5: Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the pita chips are golden brown and crispy. Flip the chips halfway through the baking time (around 6-7 minutes) to ensure even browning and crispness on both sides. Keep a close eye on them during the last few minutes as they can burn quickly.
Step 6: Remove the homemade baked pita chips from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. They will crisp up further as they cool. Serve immediately with your favorite dips or store in an airtight container.

Notes

For the crispiest results, ensure your pita chips are spread in a single layer without overcrowding the baking sheet. Flipping them halfway through the baking process is crucial for even browning and crunch. Store cooled chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days.
