Ingredients
1.5 lbs fresh asparagus, woody ends trimmed
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Step 1: Wash the asparagus spears thoroughly under cold water and pat them dry. Snap off the tough, woody ends from each spear.
Step 2: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400-450°F or 200-230°C). Lightly oil the grill grates to prevent the asparagus from sticking.
Step 3: In a large bowl, combine the prepared asparagus spears with the olive oil, minced garlic, sea salt, and black pepper. Toss well to ensure all the asparagus is evenly coated.
Step 4: Arrange the asparagus directly on the preheated grill grates. Lay the spears perpendicular to the grates so they do not fall through. Grill for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are tender-crisp and have visible char marks. The total grilling time should be approximately 8-10 minutes, depending on the thickness of the asparagus.
Step 5: Once cooked to your desired tenderness, remove the grilled asparagus from the grill and transfer them immediately to a serving platter. Sprinkle generously with the freshly grated Parmesan cheese. The residual heat will slightly melt the cheese, creating a delicious coating. Serve hot.
Notes
For the best results with grilled asparagus recipes, always choose fresh, firm asparagus. Thinner spears will cook faster, so adjust your grilling time accordingly. Don't overcrowd the grill; cook in batches if needed to ensure good charring. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice after grilling can add a wonderful bright finish.
