Ingredients
8 fresh figs (such as Black Mission or Brown Turkey)
1/2 cup mascarpone cheese, softened
3 tablespoons honey, plus more for drizzling
1/4 cup shelled pistachios, roughly chopped
Pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)
Fresh mint leaves, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a small baking dish or line with parchment paper.
Step 2: Gently wash the fresh figs and pat them completely dry. Trim off any tough stems. Make a cross-cut incision from the top of each fig, almost to the base, creating four 'petals' without cutting through completely. This allows the fig to open up.
Step 3: Carefully open each fig slightly and spoon about 1 tablespoon of softened mascarpone cheese into the center of each. If desired, sprinkle a tiny pinch of ground cinnamon over the mascarpone.
Step 4: Arrange the filled figs in the prepared baking dish. Drizzle the 3 tablespoons of honey evenly over the figs, ensuring some drips into the mascarpone and over the exposed fig flesh.
Step 5: Sprinkle the chopped pistachios over the figs.
Step 6: Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the figs are tender, slightly caramelized, and the mascarpone is lightly golden and bubbly. The exact time will depend on the size and ripeness of your figs.
Step 7: Remove from the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld and the mascarpone to set slightly. Serve warm, with an additional drizzle of honey and a garnish of fresh mint leaves, if desired.
Notes
For an extra touch, toast the pistachios lightly in a dry pan for a few minutes before chopping to enhance their nutty flavor. This dessert is best served warm.
