Ingredients
1/2 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half, very cold)
1 tablespoon maple syrup (or honey, or simple syrup)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Step 1: Ensure all your ingredients are thoroughly chilled. Cold ingredients are key to achieving the best foam. Combine the heavy cream (or half-and-half), maple syrup (or your chosen sweetener), and vanilla extract in a tall glass or a small, deep bowl.
Step 2: Use a handheld milk frother, immersion blender with a whisk attachment, or a French press. If using a frother, insert it into the liquid and froth on high until the mixture doubles in volume and forms stiff peaks. This usually takes about 30-60 seconds. Move the frother up and down to incorporate air evenly.
Step 3: If using a French press, pump the plunger vigorously for 30-60 seconds until the cream is thick and foamy. Be careful not to over-froth, as it can turn into whipped cream. We're aiming for a pourable, yet thick, foam.
Step 4: Gently spoon or pour the freshly made cold foam over your favorite iced coffee, cold brew, or iced tea.
Step 5: Serve immediately and enjoy your café-quality beverage! For best results, use within a few minutes of making.
Notes
For a dairy-free cold foam recipe, use full-fat canned coconut milk (chilled overnight) or a barista-blend oat milk. The texture might be slightly different but still delicious. Always ensure your ingredients are very cold for the best results.
