Ingredients
2 tablespoons heavy cream, very cold
1/4 cup cold milk (2% or whole milk recommended)
1-2 teaspoons liquid sweetener (simple syrup, maple syrup, or honey), optional
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract, optional
Instructions
Step 1: Gather Your Cold Ingredients. Ensure your heavy cream, milk, and any liquid sweeteners or extracts are well-chilled. Cold ingredients are key to achieving maximum frothiness and stability for your cold foam.
Step 2: Combine Ingredients. In a small bowl or the cup of your frother, combine 2 tablespoons of heavy cream, 1/4 cup of cold milk (2% or whole milk works best), 1-2 teaspoons of your preferred liquid sweetener (like simple syrup or maple syrup), and 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional).
Step 3: Begin Frothing. If using a handheld electric frother, immerse the whisk end into the liquid and turn it on. Move it up and down gently, making sure to incorporate air. If using a stand-alone cold frother, simply add ingredients and select the cold foam setting. For a French press, pump the plunger vigorously up and down until the mixture doubles in volume and becomes thick and foamy.
Step 4: Continue Until Velvety. Froth for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until the mixture has significantly increased in volume and achieved a thick, velvety consistency. The foam should be smooth and hold soft peaks. Don't over-froth, or it can become too stiff.
Step 5: Check for Consistency. Lift your frother. The cold foam should cling to the whisk and slowly drip back into the bowl. It should be thick enough to sit on top of your drink but still pourable. If it's too thin, froth for a few more seconds. If too thick, you can gently stir in a tiny splash more cold milk.
Step 6: Prepare Your Drink. Fill your glass with ice and your favorite iced coffee, tea, or cold brew. Leave about an inch of space at the top for the cold foam.
Step 7: Gently Top Your Drink. Spoon or pour the freshly made cold foam over your iced beverage. Watch as it slowly cascades into your drink, creating beautiful layers. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
For best results, always use very cold ingredients. The type of milk and frothing tool can slightly alter the final texture. Experiment with different sweeteners and flavorings to create your signature cold foam!
