Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Step 3: Beat in the vanilla extract and the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next.
Step 4: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Step 5: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
Step 6: Fold in the chocolate chips and optional nuts using a spatula.
Step 7: Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spaced about 2 inches apart.
Step 8: Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before moving to a wire rack.
Notes
For the best results, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking to prevent excessive spreading.
