A portable, handheld version of the classic retro strawberry pretzel salad. Perfect for picnics, parties, and tailgates!

  • Total Time: 2 hours 25 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups crushed pretzels (about 4 cups whole mini pretzels)
3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
3 tablespoons granulated sugar (for the crust)
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar (for the filling)
8 oz whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
6 oz box Strawberry Jello
2 cups boiling water
2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced

Instructions

Step 1: In a medium bowl, combine the crushed pretzels, melted butter, and 3 tablespoons of sugar. Stir until the pretzels are well coated.
Step 2: Optional: Toast the pretzel mixture in a large skillet over medium heat for 3-5 minutes until fragrant and slightly caramelized. Let cool completely.
Step 3: In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and 1/2 cup sugar until smooth. Gently fold in the whipped topping until no streaks remain.
Step 4: Dissolve the strawberry gelatin in 2 cups of boiling water. Stir in the sliced strawberries. Place the bowl in the refrigerator for 30-45 minutes, or until the mixture is slightly thickened but not fully set.
Step 5: To assemble the walking strawberry pretzel salad, place about 1/4 cup of the pretzel mixture into the bottom of a small snack bag or mason jar. Top with a generous scoop of the cream cheese mixture, followed by the strawberry gelatin mixture.
Step 6: Refrigerate the assembled portions for at least 2 hours to allow the gelatin to set completely before serving.

Notes

To prevent the pretzels from getting soggy too quickly, ensure the cream cheese layer completely covers the pretzels, creating a seal.
