1 sheet frozen puff pastry (thawed)
1/2 cup pizza sauce
1.5 cups shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup pepperoni slices
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 large egg (for egg wash)
Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2: Gently unroll the thawed puff pastry sheet onto the prepared baking sheet.
Step 3: Using a sharp knife, lightly score a 1-inch border around the entire edge of the pastry, taking care not to cut completely through.
Step 4: Prick the area inside the border multiple times with a fork (docking) to prevent it from rising too high.
Step 5: Spread the pizza sauce evenly within the scored border.
Step 6: Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese and pepperoni over the sauce.
Step 7: Beat the egg with a teaspoon of water and brush the 1-inch border for a golden, glossy finish.
Step 8: Bake for 18-20 minutes or until the edges are puffed and dark golden brown.
Step 9: Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil and oregano, and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Ensure the puff pastry is cold when it goes into the oven for maximum flakiness. Do not overload with wet toppings.
