  • Total Time: PT5M
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Ingredients

Scale

2 oz High-quality Bourbon or Rye Whiskey
1 Sugar cube (or 1/2 tsp granulated sugar)
3 dashes Angostura aromatic bitters
1 tsp Water
1 Large orange peel
1 Maraschino cherry (optional)
1 Large ice cube

Instructions

Step 1: Place the sugar cube in a rocks glass and saturate it with 3 dashes of bitters and a teaspoon of water.
Step 2: Muddle the sugar until it is mostly dissolved into a consistent paste.
Step 3: Place one large ice cube in the glass and pour the 2 oz of bourbon over the ice.
Step 4: Using a long bar spoon, stir the mixture gently for 20-30 seconds to chill and dilute slightly.
Step 5: Express the oils of an orange peel over the glass by twisting it, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the drink.
Step 6: Garnish with a maraschino cherry if desired and serve your perfect old fashioned recipe immediately.

Notes

Always use fresh citrus for the best aromatic experience. A large ice cube is essential to prevent rapid dilution.
