A classic, zesty, and easy-to-make homemade cocktail sauce that beats any store-bought version. Perfect for shrimp, oysters, and fried seafood.

  • Total Time: PT5M
  • Yield: 1.5 cups 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup high-quality ketchup
2-3 tablespoons prepared horseradish (adjust to taste)
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (such as Tabasco or Sriracha)
A pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: In a small to medium glass mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of ketchup with 2 tablespoons of prepared horseradish.
Step 2: Add the fresh lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce to the mixture.
Step 3: Whisk all ingredients together until the sauce is smooth and well-incorporated.
Step 4: Taste the sauce and add the additional tablespoon of horseradish if you prefer more heat, or a pinch of salt if needed.
Step 5: Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to develop before serving chilled.

Notes

For a smoother sauce, use finely grated horseradish. For a chunkier texture, look for 'extra hot' varieties which often have larger bits of root.
