Ingredients
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup high-quality mayonnaise
1/2 cup prepared horseradish (drained)
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: In a small to medium mixing bowl, whisk together the sour cream and mayonnaise until the mixture is uniform and smooth.
Step 2: Add the drained prepared horseradish, Dijon mustard, and lemon juice to the bowl. Stir vigorously to incorporate.
Step 3: Season the sauce with salt and black pepper. If using chives, fold them in gently at this stage.
Step 4: Taste the sauce and adjust the horseradish level if you prefer more heat, or add a little more sour cream if it is too intense.
Step 5: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer to an airtight container. Refrigerate for at least 30-60 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
Notes
Always use prepared horseradish, not horseradish cream, for the best results. For extra heat, do not drain the horseradish liquid.
