A classic, refreshing side dish featuring crisp English cucumbers and thinly sliced red onions tossed in a tangy, herb-infused sour cream dressing.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

2 large English cucumbers, thinly sliced
1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced into half-moons
1/2 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Step 1: Slice the English cucumbers into thin rounds and thinly slice the red onion. If the cucumbers are very watery, place them in a colander with a pinch of salt for 15 minutes, then pat dry.
Step 2: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the sour cream, mayonnaise, white vinegar, sugar, fresh dill, salt, and black pepper until the dressing is smooth.
Step 3: Add the sliced cucumbers and red onions to the bowl with the dressing.
Step 4: Toss the vegetables thoroughly until every slice is well-coated in the creamy mixture.
Step 5: Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors of the creamy cucumber salad recipe to develop.

Notes

For a lighter version, replace half of the sour cream with plain Greek yogurt. Always use fresh dill for the best flavor profile.
