A fun, mess-free, and kid-friendly way to bake fresh, fluffy white bread using a simple plastic bag mixing method.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 40 minutes
  • Yield: 1 loaf 1x

Ingredients

Scale

3 cups all-purpose flour (divided)
1 cup warm water (105-115°F)
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 package (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
3 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Instructions

Step 1: In a gallon-sized heavy-duty freezer bag, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Close the bag and shake gently. Let it sit for 10 minutes until the yeast is foamy.
Step 2: Open the bag and add 1 cup of flour and the vegetable oil. Seal the bag, removing most of the air, and squeeze/massage the bag until the mixture is well combined and smooth.
Step 3: Open the bag and add the salt and another cup of flour. Seal and massage again until smooth.
Step 4: Add the final cup of flour in small increments, mixing inside the bag until the dough pulls away from the sides and forms a ball.
Step 5: Remove the dough from the bag and place it on a lightly floured surface. Knead for 5-8 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Step 6: Place the dough in a greased loaf pan. Cover with a clean towel and let rise in a warm place for about 45-60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Step 7: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the loaf for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
Step 8: Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing your bread in a bag recipe creation.

Notes

Ensure the water is not too hot, or it will kill the yeast. Use a high-quality freezer bag to prevent leaks.
